Nuestra Familia Essay -- Violence

A gang is an organized group with a recognized drawing card whose activities are either criminal or, at the very least, threatening to the community. (Walker, 2011) Throughout history there hand over been almost infamous gangs that have gotten media attention and others that have gone under the radar. One of the more underground gang structures are prison gangs. The Nuestra Familia may not be in the news as ofttimes anymore compared to other gangs, but they are nothing to be taken lightly. Prison gangs have been around since the late 20th century and only be to be getting stronger if nothing is going to be done to prevent them. Gangs in prison have members in and out of prison. One of the more familiar gangs that has been gaining steam recently is the mainly Hispanic gang La Nuestra Familia. The purpose of this paper is to write about the history of the NF, the structure in which it operates, and some nigh(a) preventative tactics that could prevent prison gangs from beco ming stronger.Nuestra Familia (NF, Spanish for Our Family) was created in the late 1960s at the Soledad Correction Training Facility in California. (NF 2011) Nuestra Familia was created because some of the Spanish inmates had gotten tired of the abuse handed out by the Mexican Mafia to fellow Mexicans. (Nuestra Family (2011)) Nuestra Familia was created as protection from the Mexican Mafia for young Mexican-American from folksy areas. The first members of Nuestra Familia were strictly from Northern or Central California. (NF 2011) The all-out prison war between the Mexican Mafia and Nuestra Familia occurred in 1968 when Sonny Pena was stabbed to death by a member of the Mexican Mafia at San Quentin state prison. The recruitment for the two gangs split California in two. ... ...reventionservices.org/nf.aspNuestra familia . (2001, March 15). Theoretical Study and Computational Modeling :: Graduate Admissions Essays

Theoretical Study and Computational Modeling As the accomplishment of theoretical chemical comprehension has matured, its focus has shifted from analytically solvable problems, such as the atomic structure of hydrogen, to more complex problems for which analytical solutions are difficult or impossible to specify. cardinal questions about the behavior of condensed phases of matter, the electronic structure of heavy atoms and the _in vivo_ conformation of biological macromolecules fall into this class. The powerful, highly-parallel supercomputers that have evolved from recent advances in computing technology are ideally suited to the mathematical modeling of these complex chemical phenomena. Simulations in which the trajectories of a large number of interacting bodies must be computed simultaneously, such as statistical-mechanical Monte Carlo studies or molecular dynamics simulations, are particularly appropriate for implementation on parallel machines. I plan to devote my gra duate and postgraduate work to the theoretical study and computational modeling of these many-body systems. In preparation for this work, I have developed a strong background in mathematics and computer science in addition to my coursework in chemistry. Given the current demand for increased computing capacity, this background should prove beneficial. For example, while recent advances in computer hardware alone promise potential tenfold increases in speed, truly significant jumps in computing power (speedups of, say, a thousandfold) will require changes in currently available programming environments and the reformulation of popular simulation algorithms. Furthermore, until highly-parallel machines become widely available, even modest increases in capacity will depend in part upon the advanced use of existing hardware through the continued modification of available software and the development of new algorithms. My elective work in computer science and mathematics should prove useful for both the revision of existing programs and the eventual development of new programs and languages specifically designed for the parallel architecture of tomorrows supercomputers. After completing my doctoral work, I plan to seek employment as a university professor.

The Lord Of The Flies :: essays research papers

Lord of the Flies Creative Essay at that place are umpteen lessons of human nature to be learned from the novel Lord of the Flies the book explores many aspects of human nature and society as a whole. We know this is evident because the book stirs a variety of human emotions for the reader. The implications of Lord of the Flies go out-of-the-way(prenominal) beyond these few small children being abandoned on a dessert island, it discovers the defects of the mind and our human nature in order to explain our actions in society. Human fear stems from the unknown, which leads to terror and often irrational behavior just as the children on the island experienced fear, the island became an evil place as if a beast had been unleashed. We later learn that the fear of the unknown causes humans to release their own devils from within. In effect, their world isnt so different from the one we live in now.I look it ironic that the very person who interrupted the childrens sick man-hunt of Ra lph, will take the children to his ship, which will then hunt the enemy in the very same fashion. nine is no better than the children who are stuck on the island and showing their violent attributes. However, these children were saved, only to be exposed to the exact same situation on a greater level. The entire time the boys were stuck on that terrifying island they were wishing for an adult to come and release them from it. Who then will rescue this individual and save him from the terrors of the world? There is also a political system on the island just as there is in our society. Ralph is the childrens elected representative. He appoints hunters (or an army in our case) and a attraction to this group on the island. He also appoints people to look after the fire, people to get water, to get food and make shelters (political heads). They also have an era of importance on the island, they can distinguish a minor from their form of an adult just like us. In this way the island is run in an clean fashion. However, as in most political systems there are people who will oppose the decisions made by their representative. Jack is this leader of anarchy on the island. He drives this toward Ralph like people in society would protest or go on strike.
